Atago Pacific Partners is a boutique Private Equity and Investment Advisory Firm focused on investing and advising Japanese and pan Asian firms' investment capital for opportunities primarily in the U.S and Sub-Sahara Africa. As Co- Founding Managing Partner, Mr.Marshall has lived in Japan for more than 15 years, and has worked in the financial services sector overall, for more than thirty (30) years. During this time, Mr. Marshall and his partners have invested, as an owners and Principal investors on behalf of his firm and third partner pension funds, endowments and corporations, multiple billions in asset values opportunities across multiple continents.
Mr Marshall relocated Atago Pacific Partners from Tokyo to Los Angeles, Ca in late 2010, where it had been established in 2003. Atago Pacific Partners is the successor firm to PineRidge Partners, which was also founded by Mr. Marshall, where he was the firm's President and CEO. PineRidge Partners was one of the first middle market buy out firms established in Japan to focus on asset back (real estate) buy outs of publicly listed or privately held operating companies. While managing PineRidge, Mr. Marshall was intimately involved in transactions with major Japanese corporates including: Hitachi, Denon, Columbia Music Entertainment, Sammy Sega and others, all of which included real estate as a core component of the investment thesis.
Prior to founding PineRidge Partners, Michael was a Team Leader with Soros Real Estate Investors in Japan, working with leading Japan corporates such as Seibu, Daiei (MSREF) in Los Angeles, New York, Japan and Australia during 1996 through 2000. Mr. Marshall was responsible for investments of almost $10 billion in market value as a Vice President and senior investment banker in these regions, additionally he participated in the development of leading Japan real estate firms, such as Pacific Management (PMC) and helping to launch Da Vinci. Mr. Marshall also spent ten years with AEW, a Boston based investment advisory firm and Security Pacific bank in Los Angeles both as Vice President in the principal investment, asset management and acquisitions and work-out groups. Mr. Marshall has a graduate degree from the Anderson Graduate School at UCLA and an undergraduate degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia, and has published several investment reviews under the title, The Industrial Real Estate Brief.
